TOMORROW: BART, Union City, and Pleasanton Police Officer Associations to Endorse Melissa Hernandez for Congress at Press Conference
Law Enforcement Lines Up Behind Hernandez as Aisha Wahab’s Public Safety Record Hits the Airwaves Ahead of the August 18 Special Election
DUBLIN, CA— Tomorrow, BART Board President, fmr. Dublin Mayor, mom, and Congressional candidate Melissa Hernandez will join members of the BART Police Officers Association, the Union City Police Officers Association, and the Pleasanton Police Officers Association for a press conference announcing their united endorsement of her campaign. The endorsements come as CA-14 households question Aisha Wahab’s public safety record as they cast their ballots for the August 18 special election.
WHAT: Press Conference Announcing Law Enforcement Endorsements
WHERE: Deputy Sheriffs Association of Alameda County Office, 6689 Owens Dr, Pleasanton, CA 94588
WHEN: 10:00 AM PST – Monday, August 10
WHO: Law Enforcement and Fire Fighter unions; Alexandra’s Law Advocate Laura Didier
As Mayor of Dublin, Hernandez hired more police officers and funded a Behavioral Health Unit pairing officers with licensed mental health clinicians. Wahab, as chair of the Senate Public Safety Committee, stripped the automatic felony for adults who solicit 16- and 17-year-olds for sex, a loophole Governor Newsom’s office publicly denounced, and blocked Alexandra’s Law, the bipartisan bill to hold fentanyl dealers accountable when their drugs kill.
“Nobody has to guess where Melissa Hernandez stands with law enforcement. We’ve sat across the table from her. As BART board president, she went to bat for our officers, for the staffing and the resources it takes to keep millions of riders safe every day. She’ll bring that same fight to Washington,” said the BART Police Officers Association board.
“We support Melissa Hernandez for Congress because she stands with public safety even when the going gets tough. As Dublin’s Mayor and as BART Board President, Melissa hired more public safety officers and made our community safer. There is no better choice for Congress,” said the Union City Police Officers Association board.
In contrast, Wahab secured the endorsement of Alameda County’s former District Attorney, Pamela Price, who was ousted from office in a recall amid accusations of prosecutorial bias, retribution against former staff, nepotism, unqualified hires, and allegations of racism and extortion.
Today’s endorsements from three associations join a many public safety unions backing Hernandez, including:
- Alameda County Firefighters Association
- Alameda County Deputy Sheriffs Association
- Fremont Firefighters Association
- Fremont Police Officers Association
- Livermore-Pleasanton Firefighters Association
- Livermore Police Officers Association
- National Latino Peace Officers Association
